It's on to Ladysmith for Orioles-Buy your tickets early! UPDATE: The Oriole game Saturday will be at 1 p.m. in Ladysmith. Advance tickets for the game will be on sale Thursday and Friday in the Stanley-Boyd High School office during regular business hours. Fans who will make the trek to Ladysmith are encouraged to buy their tickets early. There is one gate into the Ladysmith football stadium, and last year some fans waited in line for a half-hour to buy a ticket. See you at the game! Go Orioles!
The Stanley-Boyd Orioles' offense was relentless, as Stanley-Boyd pounded Loyal/Granton 41-19 on a chilly night for football at Chapman Park Tuesday night. The Stanley-Boyd running game coupled with a nice night from quarterback Paul Reit spelled doom for the Greyhounds. The Orioles are now 9-1 on the season, with that loss coming at the hands of Colby. Top-seeded Colby also won its first round game, pounding Rib Lake-Prentice, 42-7. Ladysmith made it into round two by virtue of a 21-0 victory over second-seeded Webster on the road Tuesday night. The Orioles are the number three seed. By WIAA rules, in the second round, the higher seed hosts the game, unless the opponent has yet to host. That's why the game is in Ladysmith. The time has yet to be set, and we'll update this site when it is.

The city’s finance committee has worked for two months to put together figures for the budget, but revenue streams are few and expenses keep piling up. Committee chairman Mike Henke proposed switching the cost for fire protection from the general fund to the water utility. In theory, that plan would have helped the city raise more than $150,000 for its general fund. The plan was for the water utility to spread the cost of fire protection to all customers, not just taxpayers. Under that scenario, large customers and non-taxpaying entities would have helped foot the bill.
[more]Palin's Family Roots Are In Stanley
 | | Gov. Palin's Great-great grandfather was Homer C. Strong of Stanley. | By Al Brown
When Republican Vice Presidential Nominee, Governor Sarah Palin, stepped to the podium and introduced herself and her family at last week’s Republican convention in St. Paul, very few people were of the realization that her heritage has a direct link to a small midwestern town by the name of Stanley, Wisconsin. Matter of fact, it may yet be unknown to Governor Palin that she has Stanley roots. Last week, Darlene Christianson, of Holmen, e-mailed The Stanley Republican indicating that her brother, Bob Samplawski had discovered a link to Sarah Palin’s heritage which evolved around Stanley.
